I am interested in putting up a worm pit on my farm which is 1800 feet above sea level located in the main range of Malaysia. I have just completed a retreat for our family and since it is only one hour's drive from our home in Kuala Lumpur, we find that we go there very often including week days.
Although we have built our own incinerator to get rid of the garbage we created, it would seem to be a pity not to convert them to humus, where possible. Since we are growing all kinds of fruit trees and flowers vegetables on the land the humus would come handy. I plan to get my contractor to dig a 6x4x4 pit for this purpose and line the sides with timber. To keep the pit dark and moist I intend to use a tarpaulin to cover it. My problem now is to choose the right specie of worm to populate my pit. I see that there are many worms in the moist soils around my farm. Would they be good enough? Regards.
