If this critter was an escapee from someone's house you may be OK, but you should have it kept in a cage by yourself or some vet who can observe if it is rabid. Ferrets and other critters do not come up to people. If they do, it is often because they are rabid. You need to be tested, though usually shots are begun immediately if the critter is not caught for observation or testing. We always had to watch for wild critters in the parks in Phila. When I was a kid you often saw foxes, skunks, etc. If they don't run from you, determine if they were pets.
