Position Opening: The Community Gardening Program of Ohio State University Extension in Cuyahoga County

Program Assistant 7 50% Full-Time Equivalent; grant-supported 7 Must have own transportation; mileage reimbursed at $0.405 per mile 7 Medical benefits and Ohio Public Employees Retirement System 7 Some weekend and evening hours required Under the direction of OSU Extension, this employee will work in partnership with Cleveland Department of Public Health and other agencies to carry out the STEPS to a Healthier US: Cleveland project. This project will combat major public health diseases such as diabetes, obesity and asthma. Community gardening will be a community-focused intervention to improve the local social and physical environments in at-risk, resource poor neighborhoods. Abilities/Experience required: 7Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience in field related to horticulture, education and/or community organizing. 7Experience in conducting outreach in an urban setting. 7Experience in managing programs and/or community outreach. 7Excellent organizational, communication and writing skills. 7Horticulture knowledge and hands-on vegetable gardening experience required. 7Experience in market gardening and/or farmers markets a plus. 7Ability to work with diverse groups or individuals in indoor and outdoor settings. 7Experience in establishing and conducting educational presentations to small or large groups. 7Experience working with minimal supervision and ability to manage schedule independently. 7 Computer proficiency in word processing, internet, email.
