TV GARDENER TO OPEN COMMUNITY PROJECT Community Newswire
NATURE Garden Sydenham, 21 Apr 2006 - 08:37
Celebrity gardener Gay Search was today preparing to cut the ribbon on a new
community project in South East London.
The former presenter of BBC2's Gardener's World was due to open a walled garden
built by volunteers in Sydenham tomorrow, April 22.
Local charity the Sydenham Garden Project took over the neglected Queenswood
Road Nature Reserve two years ago, transforming the site into a community
garden with raised beds planted with flowers, herbs and vegetables.
Volunteers from the project are now hoping to restore a derelict Victorian
greenhouse in the garden and build an information point for the community.
The charity plans to use the garden to provide training in gardening skills,
conservation and arts and crafts for local people who have mental health
problems or physical disabilities.
A Spring Fair will take place after the garden opening with plants, crafts and
books and refreshments for sale.
The entrance to the garden is on Holland Drive, off Queenswood Road. For
