The classic garden tractor in the 14-hp to 18-hp range can now amount to expensive mini tractors when you look at John Deere models, for example. But they are indeed very handy and a pleasure to own.
Kubota offers several small tractors in the 18-hp to 28-hp range that are versatile workhorses, but not within your 5K price range unless they are used. You might just look for a used tractor in the 25-hp to 35-hp range that is good condition. Several of the international-brand tractors are more affordable, but pay attention to fine details such as frequency of maintenance that buyers are experiencing and availability of parts.
