Despite all the publicity about the loss of the South Central Farm in Los Angeles, there's great news: most of the gardeners have already found new gardens to grow their vegetables and fruits and establish new friendships. Ever since the first threat of the sale of the property, much effort has gone into identifying alternative gardening sites and moving gardeners there. This has included starting several new community gardens and joining numerous existing gardens. Staff and volunteers from several organizations have made this possible, including the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, Councilperson Jan Perry's office, other Los Angeles Council districts, the Los Angeles Community Garden Council, and University of California Cooperative Extension Common Ground Garden Program and its Master Gardeners (6 of whom have been from the South Central Farm during this time). Gardeners want to garden, and LA is all the greener for it!
