It's forty-ish here in Hell's Kitchen, and daffodils that we planted last year in DeWitt Clinton Park & the Clinton Community garden are starting to rise and bloom - my crocuses are coming up nicely, cheering a pretty grey day.
So this note from Coquitlam, British Columbia, where it has to be much colder was particularly cheering: "Gardening info at Colony Farm meeting Mar 24 2006 All 265 members, associates and friends of the Colony Farm Community Organic Gardens are invited to attend the group's first general meeting for 2006. The topic of the meeting, scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, March 27 at Coquitlam Public Library's Poirier branch, is "Organic Gardening 101: Aeration to Zucchini." It is suited for both beginning and well-seasoned gardeners. Guest speaker will be Roberta Ward, manager of Gardenworks at Mandeville. She will cover gardening basics such as soil and seed preparation, and timing of plantings, and share information on her favourite seed varieties. Questions are encouraged and there will be light refreshments and door prizes. For more information, email [EMAIL PROTECTED] " Seems like the time of looking at plant catalogues, throwing potato peels into steaming compost and longing for color is coming to an end.
