Would it be possible for those of you with mandated drip irrigation and/or
watering restrictions to give me
some feed-back on how your plan works? We are in the process of moving to a
new community garden
location that will be twice as large as the garden that it is replacing.
Because of severe drought, our
regional water management district has declared emergency water
restrictions.

Compounding the problem is the fact that our water bill is currently paid by
a branch of county government
in a county where budget cuts are happening on a daily basis. Our water
usage needs to be reduced
so that the expenditure could be manageable should we suddenly find
ourselves faced with the bill.

Most importantly: We want to do the right thing by providing an example to
the larger community with
our watering practices.

We know the estimated water savings of drip and low-volume irrigation so we
don't need that information.

What we would like to know is

        1) What are the water use restrictions in your location?
        2) Who imposes these restrictions?
        3) Is your system on a water use allotment or garden-wide timer to
control usage?
        4) How do you address the water restrictions to get compliance from
gardeners?

Thanks for your replies.

PS:
Adam was correct in his statement, "Community Gardens are 100% political and
50% gardening." That's
a long story for us that will soon have a happy ending.
