Like many (all?) small non-profits, finding ways to raise money in this
particular economic climate is tricky. So, last fall, two of our devoted
gardeners got together and made "A Troy Gardens Journal" -- 12 tracks of
original music and spoken word CD for and about our favorite piece of land
-- Troy Gardens in Madison, Wisconsin. They had a CD launch party on a cold
Saturday night in January (up against a Packers game!) and it was standing
room only in the coffeehouse.

>From the product description:
"Troy Gardens inspires us. If we are writers, the gardens become our muse.
If we are musicians, the land brings us new songs. The newly released CD, *Troy
Gardens Journal*, contains spoken excerpts from Marge Pitts' collection of
essays by the same name, enhanced by six original songs written and
performed by Maury Smith, who also produced the project.

The CD's 12 tracks mark the passage of the seasons at Troy Gardens, and cast
a glance back to the project's organizational beginning. These stories and
songs offer a nourishing taste of hope. In these times when "the big garden"
that is our world seems to be bleak and getting bleaker, we celebrate the
solace and strength found in relationships, in community, and in our "little
gardens" at Troy."

No way to know yet if it will actually raise much money, but what a
delightful little product it is. While enduring what seems to be the
longest, coldest and snowiest winter in southern Wisconsin in decades (and
snowing yet again while I type), I've enjoyed snuggling into bed with this
CD playing and dreaming of our gardening community and the growing season to
come. Info and see jacket cover at

PS. Can I hope that all this cold is killing off some ticks? How about
flea beetles and those striped cucumber guys??
