Dear Everyone, ACGA would like to inform its members about a possible EPA funding opportunity for brownfields rehabilitation. They have two proposal guidelines posted now with information that may be of interest to you. ACGA is not directly endorsing this project, simply because we don't have any direct experience with it - we are just acting as an information conduit. Of course any brownfields rehabilitation comes with its own set of hazards and should start with extensive research and environmental testing, but I think this could be an opportunity for some of you and also a potentially interesting starting point for a discussion. Brownfield rehab could offer opportunities for trying out techniques like phytoremediation, for instance, which I know has been done in several places, like the project at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut to remove lead from soil. What do you all think, what are your experiences? I understand that at the Trinity project they'd even be planting vegetables on the site eventually. What can you all tell us about your experiences in this area? Below is a summary of the information from EPA if you all would like to apply.
Final FY2009 Brownfields Assessment, Revolving Loan Fund and Cleanup Grant Guidelines These grants may be used to address sites contaminated by petroleum and hazardous substances, pollutants, or contaminants (including hazardous substances co-mingled with petroleum). Opportunities for funding are as follows: Brownfields Assessment Grants (each funded up to $200,000 over three years), Brownfields Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) Grants (each funded up to $1,000,000 over five years) and Brownfields Cleanup Grants (each funded up to $200,000 over three years). The proposal deadline is November 14, 2008. The contact is: [EMAIL PROTECTED] and below is the information she sent us.
