*1) National Food-Coops Conference*

*Monday 2 February 2009 10am - 4pm at 76 Portland Place, London W1B 1NT*

* *

As part of the Making Local Food Work programme Sustain is organising a
national food co-ops conference. The event is free for volunteers and
community workers and £50 for local authorities and others.

The conference aims to help food co-ops and other community-run food outlets
become more sustainable, and provide a forum for sharing experiences. The
keynote speaker will be Martin Caraher, reader in Food and Health Policy at
City University.

There are a limited number of travel bursaries available for volunteers To
book please go to http://www.sustainweb.org/news.php?id=235

*2) Discussion Paper: A new local / organic produce depot for London?*

*Exploring the possibility of a more collaborative approach to supply from
local and organic producers to community outlets in London*
http://www.eafl.org.uk/LondonDepot.asp

East Anglia Food Link is working, under the Making Local Food Work
programme, to support and develop supply chains providing local food to
community food outlets in London. Early discussions with a number of
producers and outlets suggest that a new local / organic produce depot might
provide viable access to London markets for local producers and ready access
to local food for even the smallest community outlets.

A symposium to discuss these ideas is planned for early 2009, but please
provide comments in the meantime. To register your views go to:
