I would not use mulch in the traditional sense. I have used: 1. Pecan shells
2. Tree chips 3. sawdust [wood; no plywood, chipboard, etc; glue] 4. Don't remember the fourth one They all worked; which ones are free? All were free to us. Sjhells we thought were the most attractive. I learned about a new "mulch" last week. Chipped up tires dyed red. EPA believes they are dangerous for children. Sure not organic.
