Join us for: Gardens for Growing Healthy Communities: Translating Research into Community Practice with Jill S. Litt, PhD Assistant Professor Department of Environmental Health, Colorado School of Public Health July 15th, 4 p.m. EST, 3 p.m. CST, 2 p.m. MST, 1 p.m. PST Dr. Jill Litt will discuss her preliminary research results from her project, Gardens for Growing Healthy Communities (GGHC). This project assessed the benefits of community gardens; giving community garden organizations, gardeners, funders and local leaders valuable information on the impact of these gardens on urban neighborhoods. GGHC was a four-year study of over 60 Denver community gardens to learn about the health and social benefits of community gardening. GGHC will help inform ways in which communities can be more active and have access to safe and healthy food, and is part of a growing movement to look at the relationship between the environment and physical activity and nutrition. Bio: Dr. Litt is Assistant Professor at the Colorado School of Public Health in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health and at the University of Colorado at Boulder in the Environmental Studies program. Dr. Litt has bridged her training and early work in environmental monitoring, chemical exposures, healthy housing and Brownfield redevelopment with research to understand the health promoting effects of community gardens.
