Thanks for this great book list! Though I've read a lot of those, you
pointed out books I didn't know about.

Subject: Re: [Community_garden] Garden Perspective

Know what you mean Karen, I was pretty surprised for a year and a half while

forming our CG at the difference in almost everything between city gardening

and rural. That included mind set, neededs and wanteds from the people in
the area, city politics (I was used to Orange County Calif. which was quite
a different scale than little Auburn Ga.), gardening problems (deer,
rabbits, country dogs), and OMG Georgia clay (concrete colored red). My
training in Permaculture exposed me to a number of agricultural forms in
everything from aguaculture, CSAs, urban farms, farmers markets, CGs, and
big and little farms and gardens. I was fascinated by the multitude of ways
people solved their problems. It's a very creative thing, growing food. It's

from the soul, deep down I think, so it isn't cookie-cutter. We benefit from

learning what others have come up with, which is one of the reasons I am so
happy to be part of this list serv. I learn all the time.

I've been reading "The One-Straw Revolution" by the Japanese genius Masanobu

Fukuoka who was one of our awakeners. I highly recommend it to anyone
wanting to learn how to approach growing stuff in hard environments with a
minimum of effort.

I'm also including a library list for anyone interested in getting some good

books on various subjects related to self-sufficiency. I spent several hours

compiling this the other day and wanted to share it with you all.

I am a founding member of a sustainability meet-up group. Yesterday I gave a

talk on food security and putting in a fall garden. I gave them a number of
titles to purchase for their library. So, here they are:

The One-Straw Revolution by Masanobu Fka

Subject: [Community_garden] Garden Perspective

> Thanks Dianne for pointing out that my perspective (gardening in urban
