Dear Community Garden Email List Subscribers: As you all must have noticed there have been a couple of spams that were sent to the community_garden email list (listserve) that appeared as if they came from list members. These are not unique to our email list and are not caused by any of our email list processes.
Jennifer Leonard, our webmaster spoke to the email host and he confirmed her suspicions that a lot of people's emails are being hacked right now. If email list members are hacked, that gives hackers access to the list. Typically, hackers send out spam emails or viruses to everyone in that person's email address book, so it looks like it's coming from a trusted source. The hacked emails coming to our email list don't seem to be viruses or anything dangerous, but it's always a good idea NOT to click on links or open attachments from anyone you don't know, or that look in any way suspicious. Links can be copied and pasted into your browser's address bar to avoid opening an executable file that could be a virus. Thank you to everyone who caught the spam and let us know.
