Here at our community garden in West Bend, WI, we hang a produce scale on a shepherd's hook. The scale has an "s" hook on it, and people hang bagged produce on the scale and record their haul in a spiral notebook which is kept in a mailbox. Of course, not everyone remembers to record, but we do get a fairly accurate record of what we harvest. Last year, it was over 5,000 pounds for our one-acre site with 77 plots. We use a general "fair market" average of $2.00 per pound to celebrate and justify our existence to the community and to local governmental agencies. It works for us, hope it does for you as well!

Subject: [Community_garden] weighing produce

To encourage future funding--as well as inform ourselves and the larger
community about the fruits and vegetables impact of our community
gardens--we need to develop a workable system for figuring out how much
produce we are generating. This could be on a weekly or monthly basis,
something asked of all gardeners or just a representative percentage.

Does anybody have a tool, system, or form they find useful? Or know of
where we might find one? Any leads welcome.

Thank you, Ana
