Hi all, planning and development here in Seattle created code to allow all
forms of gardening...here is a link
http://www.seattle.gov/DPD/Publications/CAM/cam244.pdf

Building on that work, the Mayor's office of Sustainability and the Environment
pulled together a interdepartmental team among city department and created a
Food Action Plan check it out http://www.seattle.gov/environment/food_plan.htm
You will find the whole plan in pdf form there.

201211/22 : Community gardens in backyards?
    Erin White <[email protected]>

Hi All-

In an advocacy effort for urban agriculture in Raleigh, one of the issues we
are supporting is a more progressive allowance for community gardens in
residential areas. The City is calling for special use permits to be required
in most residential areas, which is a hardship for many low-budget community
organizations. They suggest that in many residential zones, lots are large
enough for community gardens in backyards (or sides).

My question is this: Are there many examples in NC of community gardens on the
same property as a residential home? Do people have stories or experiences to
share? For instance, someone with a large backyard acts as the host for a
community garden, in any kind or organizational arrangement. The community
garden is actually on the same property as a house.

I would love any thoughts on this, including benefits or cautions with this
kind of arrangement.

Thanks!

Erin
