That wouldn't be a good argument for community gardening in my area. One
community garden charges $0.75 per square foot for annual plot rental (but
plots are measured from the middle of the paths, so the actual garden space
costs a bit more than that), and another one charges $2.64 per square foot
for plot rental (but the garden has fruit trees outside the plots). It's
still worth it, though, because we have a year-round gardening climate and
the $1-$2 a day cost is less than gym, medical, and entertainment expenses.
