Dearest Community Gardening friends

We will be participating in the national Food Day campaign organized by *Center
for Science in the Public Interest* <http://www.cspinet.org/> on October 24
here in Lexington KY.

I know many of us are involved on a daily basis in
activities/projects/campaigns that* "celebrate our food system when it
works, and fix it when it’s broken".*...but I still encourage your
participation in this coordinated national effort that helps build what
Will Allen of Growing Power calls the *Good Food Revolution!!*
**
*Use the forwarded email message below to gather more information and join
the national campaign. *
**

with lotsa love and hugs!!

Dear Mr. Embry,

I am writing to see if you and your organization would like to be involved
in the Food Day campaign this fall. Food Day <http://www.foodday.org/> is a
nationwide celebration and a movement toward sustainable, affordable and
healthy food that builds all year long and culminates in a day of action on
October 24 every year. It aspires to celebrate our food system when it
works, and fix it when it’s broken.

Food Day is supported by hundreds of national groups and organizations,
including the American Public Health Association, National Sustainable
Agriculture Coalition, National WIC Association, National Education
Association, Earth Day Network, and many more. Last year, community
volunteers organized more than 3,200 events in all 50 states to celebrate
Food Day; our 2012 *Campaign
Report*<https://foodday.nationbuilder.com/assets/pages/24/FoodDay_Report_2012_Final__SMALL.pdf>has
more detailed information and highlighted events.

It looks like there are some exciting things shaping up for Food Day in
Lexington this year, and we'd love to have you involved! I hope you will be
interested in discussing how the Lexington Food Policy Council might want
to be involved in the Food Day effort this year. Would you be available
for a phone call sometime in the coming week?

I also wanted to direct you to a recent Food Day
webinar<http://www.foodday.org/multimedia>that focused on food policy
change--Mark Winne gives some great advice for
food policy councils!

Across the country, health officials, nutritionists, college, advocates for
farmworker justice and animal welfare, environmentalists, farmers,
responsible companies, chefs, parents, and teachers are sponsoring
activities urging Americans to Eat Real.

How can you get involved? Use the momentum around Food Day to introduce
healthier foods into diet. Ask your employer to announce an office wellness
policy or to participate in a community supported agriculture program. Or,
introduce cooking lessons in your school or plant a vegetable garden.

Here are a few other ways to get involved depending on your time, interest
and resources:

   - Join the conversation about Food Day priority issues on
Facebook<https://www.facebook.com/FoodDayEatReal>,
   Twitter <https://twitter.com/foodday2013>, and
Pinterest<http://pinterest.com/foodday/>
   .
   - Host an event<http://www.foodday.org/users/event_pages/new?parent_id=90>or
organize an activity, whether large or small.
   - Coordinate Food Day activity for your area.
   - Attend events <http://www.foodday.org/events> in your community.

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

*Eliza Warren-Shriner*
