Can't resist after lurking for many months - yeah, Danila, my garden has
zillions of solar collectors! They're called "leaves".

Sorry, had to...

Anyway, I'd also be a little concerned about seagulls and other birds pooping
on them, which can become an issue, unfortunately. I think there are design
solutions for this, though you have to keep after them, as normal for critter
control of any kind. I'm in Los Angeles right now (not home in Charlotte, I'm
helping my dad in Woodland Hills), and I can see how solar makes a lot of sense
here. Good luck!

Don

Growing Big Juicy Tomatoes

Want to be able to consistently grow big juicy tomatoes? What are some of
the nitty gritty specifics such as how important pruning is to getting
big juicy tomatoes?  Did you know that adding nitrogen later in the
season will actually hamper production? What about how to handle some of
the most common diseases?

And can you believe that the US Supreme Court actually ruled on the
question "is a tomato a fruit or a vegetable?".

Wildcraft got a chance to interview Annette Welsford who is the
co-author the complete book of growing tomatoes.Remember how Marjory
recently wrote about the 'tomato sovereignty project' and she had a huge
problem with blossom end rot?  Well, Marjory went on a tirade to find
the best resource for everything tomatoes and discovered this really
excellent resource on - well, everything tomatoes.  Marjory got Annette
Welsford who is one of the authors of the book on Skype and got an
awesome interview for you to listen to.  Note that Marjory will be doing
another call with Annette again so if you have a question you want
answered on the next call, put that in the comments section.  Click here

We are thinking about installing a couple of solar panels on the almost-flat
roof of our garden shed in sunny Los Angeles. The power would go to a battery
inside the secure part of the shed to be used to power electrical tools, an
occasional hot water kettle and (if there's enough power) a small refrigerator.

The only issues we've identified have been: possibility someone sees the panels
from the street or a neighboring house and vandalizes them, and the need to
secure the panels in a way that doesn't pierce the roof of the shed (to allow
in rain).

We have someone calculating the amount of wattage necessary for these uses.

Has any other garden installed and/or used solar panels? Any cautions or tips?
