Hi,

I was hoping that I could get some input on how various CGs handle the
volunteer requirement for your gardeners. Do you have them? What's worked, what
hasn't If you have them how or do you enforce them?

We had a nasty spat of near pitchfork and burning torches from our gardeners
this fall when plot holders were reminded of their signed lease agreement to
put in 10 hours of volunteering over the season and attend two workdays. The
result was our plot coordinator resigning and most of the board members
questioning their future involvement. During the previous few years there were
no requirements for gardeners to help with non-plot maintenance areas and not
surprisingly, none volunteered. The board wound up doing all the maintenance.
This past year we added a 10hr + 2 workday attendance to the lease.

How do others balance the need to maintain the community areas without
alienating gardeners or making the requirements too onerous? Our board is 100%
volunteer and quickly approaching burnout.

thanks,
Tim
