I currently have a site that already has user accounts, groups, and
events. But I need some social networking capability, such as forums
for a specific group, or a blog for a particular workshop that is
going to be held.

1. Will I be able to limit access to forums or blogs based on
membership in a certain group (my groups)?

2. I currently use ActiveRBAC for autehntication (yes it's old -
changing it out seems like a huge ordeal). Can I have community engine
use my authentication method?

3. I'm also considering running it as a separate site, as opposed to
full code integration. However the above issues would still apply - I
would have to be able to limit access to resources based on membership
and access privileges in my main application. This would also allow
me to upgrade my app to Rails 3 if community engine lags behind.

4. Now that Engines are first class citizens in Rails, particularly in
Rails 3, will desert be going away? Doesn't make sense to have two
code merging facilities, possibly stepping on each other's toes.

Would Tog be a better fit for these requirements?

One part these systems seem built to be integrated into an existing
site. Yet there are some real challenges in doing that to a non-
trivial application, which mine is.

Any thoughts?
