Greetings all. Pickle, take note: while I couldn't get an actual replacement Energizer 523, the local "Batteries Plus" was able to make one for me from 3 1.5v batteries. They say the Energizer 523 is no longer made; this custom-made creation cost me $9 + tax.
Since putting the battery in, my clock now stays accurate :) but every time I try to switch from LocalTalk to EtherTalk -- EVERY time -- the machine locks up halfway through the conversion. After this lockup, I can only reboot successfully by zapping the PRAM. If I don't zap the PRAM it hangs at "Welcome to Macintosh" -- before the progress meter prints, and before any extensions show across the bottom of the screen. Oh, and the Asante Desktop EN/SC was tested and works fine on an SE. (It's too bad Timbuktu doesn't work in < 8 megs of RAM.) :( The weirdest part is that this _used_ to work!
