Open it up and make sure it's got a ROM SIMM (I think all IIfxes do,

Um, because it crashes when you try to boot the kernel with Mode32 
installed?

I dunno why, but I suspect that it has something to do with the fact 
that A/UX runs fine in 32 bit mode on the stock SE/30, and so that 
conflicts with Mode32's 32 bit mode hack.
