Does either floppy drive behave strangely in any other way?  Sounds like it
might be a track 0 alignment mismatch between the drives.  Didn't someone
around here either have or know someone with a pair of floppy drives that were
exactly 1 track different in their alignment, allowing 1.4MB of data to be
written to an 800K disks, and neither computer could see what the other had
written?

For temporary purposes, yes, but I highly recommend AGAINST doing so.
