I have been experimenting with the LW 8500 ppd v.1.2, setting it to 20 mb internal memory. It works, but there is absolutely no speed increase even compared to a printer setting of minimal 4 mb when using the LW IIg PPD. The 5 mb or 8 mb upgrade setting don't speed up things either. I'm under the impression that my LW IIg is just operating as fast as it can get. I have downloaded a great number of fonts to a hard disk I attached to the computer. That made the machine considerably faster when printing DTP docs made with a whole bunch of fonts. The machine is now actually fast enough to be usable for more demanding print jobs. BTW Print speeds with OS X browsers continue to be lame on this dinosaur printer, even though I downloaded all those IE fonts to the hard disk. Luckily I don't print that many webpages ;-) It has probably something to do with the use of pdf technology. Some pdf files print very slow too, even when they seem to contain nothing but text. It must have something to do with the way these docs are generated.
