Has anyone had a problem with System 7.5.5 on an SE/30 with an Asante Ethernet card attached? I recently picked up the card and when I installed it, the Mac slowly became unstable until the point that it would crash on boot. The crashes are always from a system bus error. If I pull the card, the machine is fine. I installed the card in another SE/30 running 7.1 and it didn't crash. But I also haven't been able to get the Mac to see the internet. For fun I was going to try to get an SE/30 to talk through my cable modem. Now I'm just getting frustrated (which really isn't the point of a hobbie). I suspect that the software that I downloaded from Asante for the card is causing a problem. Am I right in thinking that System 7.5.5 has all of the necessary software?
