Scrounged through the "stack-0-Macs" in the garage and pulled together enough SIMMs to boost the SE/30 to 20mb. Updated the OS to 7.1, installed OT 1.1.1 and updated that to 1.1.2.
Booted fine (30 seconds to the desktop!). Installed Claris Emailer 1.1v3 as a test. Connected to AOL and pulled down messages at the rate of about 1 per second. Took longer to "file" them than to download them. Installed iCab and gave it a run. Loaded eBay pages like molasses in January (at the 45th parallel, north) but worked fine with no crashes. Fun machine, though most of the time it will sit in the corner of the kitchen as a "cookbook." Boots in about 1/20th of the time of the Classic II I had there (with OS 7.5.5). Would like to have more RAM for that. -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/>.
