Yo compacters everywhere, Our -p sez:
>Nothing to worry about, but at the same time, if you're on this list and >have a >Windoze box, RUN YOUR FREAKING VIRUS PROTECTION. > >Thanks :) On this list, we are all at least somewhat knowledgeable of this peecee virus issue, its amusement, and its prevention. However, I belong to other clubs that use Yahoo and other bulk eMail processes to distribute club newsletters and serve as forums for those clubs. You might guess that many members are peecee users. And they are not one bit computer literate. AND they haven't a clue that they are part of the problem of these well written peecee virii (sorry Stuart. On this side of the pond, virii is a word). Club management tears their hair out over member complaints about the multiple messages and theft of eMail addresses unable to convince many members to acquire, maintain, or use virus protection. These are the same people who buy a new car whenever their current near-new car needs only new sparkplugs. While insisting that understanding and responsibly using this technology is one answer, it is not the answer that will work for the digital communications industry as a profitable enterprise (and on which we of the compact Mac are economic "free riders"). Rather, the answer will only be found when those who produce hardware and software to sell in the market place make worthy products that will not support virii. Yes, this can be done. Until then, we are left with the advise of our BrianH <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: >...stop using <ugh!!> OutLook;... and all other unworthy products. For those of us in the U.S., ponder this. If you or I were a convicted felon, we are denied any ability to be considered for competitive bids for goods and services sought by either our Federal government and many State governments or their contractors. That is U.S. code. Why, then, is the convicted felon Microsoft still able to sell virii tolerant software anywhere in the U.S. especially to the U.S.? Do I hear the distant words of the late Walt Kelly? I've moaned enuf. Run your virus software. Stop using Outlook. Bill -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/>.
