FWIW quite old Postscript printers like my HP LJ4Mplus work quite happily on a network with Mac OS X, Mac OS 9 and Mac OS 7.1. I paid �50 for mine in the UK, so will probably be less than that in the US. :-(
My Mystic (CC/575) running 7.1 is very happy to print to it.
