External floppy, priceless. :)
Yes, absolutely. Without an external floppy, you should consider System 6.0.5--the core System Folder is 68 KB smaller than System 6.0.8. That may not seem like much, but the extra space will come in handy. If you want to share a printer with machines running System 7, then only System 6.0.8 will work.
Speaking of external floppy drives, does anyone know if M0131 drives came in platinum, and if so, is there any way to differentiate them from beige ones? I got a platinum Plus on eBay, very nice. But my attempt to buy an external floppy for it yielded a beige one, even though it looked platinum in the photo ... Its part number is 825-1174-A ... Does anyone know if a platinum one would have a slightly different part number? Or maybe the serial number would be be an indicator? The 1988 Mac Plus owner's guide I got with the machine shows what appears to be a platinum M0131 drive ...
