What is wrong?
The problem is that the Plus have a couple resistors that you have to set up to tell the motherboard what kind of SIMMs you are going to use. As the Plus originally had 1 Mb, it was set to use 256 Kb SIMMs. All you have to do is to set it to use 1 Mb modules (evidently the size of the SIMMs extracted from the Mac II). They were fully recognized by your beige Plus because it was already setted up for 1 Mb modules. As stated in Apple's service manual for the Macintosh Plus, what you have to do to make it fully recognize 1 Mb modules is to find the R8 resistor in the logic board (it is located near the serial port connectors), cut one of its legs and bend it slightly so it doesn't contact anything. After that, your gray Plus should recognize the full 4 Mb. Greetings, Antonio Rodrguez (Grijan) <ftp://grijan.cjb.net:21000/> -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/>.
