Well, there's no wireless option, the sound output is 8-bit mono 22kHz, and there's no software fast enough to decode MP3 in real time on less than a Quadra. My PowerBook 190 (a 33mHz 040) has wireless and 16-bit stereo 22kHz sound. I have a program on it that plays mp3 files fine (from the hard drive), although I believe the output is mono. But I have never tried streaming on the 190 and I don't think there's any software. I've also never tried playing an mp3 off a file share. I made a more serious attempt to use a road-apple 6200 PowerMac as a stereo peripheral. iTunes 2 would not run due to the kind of audio chip. SoundJam Free works on System 8.6, but the output is still 22kHz and I could hear the difference from 44kHz. -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/>.
