Well, I'm guess the answer is NO, as I hooked up an external 800k floppy
drive and it didn't work, even with a bootable 400k floppy inserted.

Are the ROMs on the 512k upgradeable to make it use 800k floppy drives?
Aside from using ROMs from a 512ke (I don't have one), could I upgrade the
ROMs with the ROMs from a Plus, perhaps?

If not, what are my options here or am I stuck trying to find a working 400k
floppy drive somewhere?

Thanks,
  Nat
