I have tried this particular modem on the following Hardware ;
Apple Mac SE (4Mb/40Mb) with Mac OS 7.1
Apple Mac SE/30 (128Mb/2.0Gb) with Mac OS 7.5.5
Apple Mac IIci (128Mb/2.0Gb) with Mac OS 7.6.1
All experience the same problem.
What is even stranger is that I received another GV Teleport Platinum (M/N :
A812) from US, plugged it in no problem with either Zterm or Globalfax.
I have come to the conclusion, it is one of the following ;
1) The Modem is Country Specific
2) The Modem is Faulty
As Classic Apple Macintosh becomes older, the more difficult it becomes to
source items for these classic computers - hence the reason, why always to
purchase two items (One as a Backup ;-) ).
Look forward to your response.

Problems
I second that, I had a PowerBook Duo and the Power board/modem were on the
same module with a regular phone jack type connector. Foreign versions of
the Duo used a different modem/powerboard with a serial type port that
required an external converter dongle, for the different standards in each
country. If I recall it was a14.4bps Global Village OEM. GV may have also
made an internal upgrade to 19.6bps only in the US, but no one else ever
did.
Also, depending on what Mac the modem is being used on, could affect the GV
software. The serial handshake data line changed a lot in the early Macs.
Some had it, some didn't and some only supported it in a limited way. You
don't mention what Mac you're using it on, so there may be compatibility
problems with the software and the hardware.
