Jeff, I have had several original compacts with accelerator cards, that
slide in and out of the original chassis just fine when installed. The
MacSnap which also provides memory expansion as well as the MicroMat 68030
accelerators -- if they are too high to slide in and out, they won't fit in
the chassis at all as well as risk to shorting. If they come unseated (say
during shipping), it can become a problem in which case you have an elegant
fix there. Also, if you read closely, the problem logic board is on the
Plus, not the 512k. He may well indeed have an upgrade that uses SIMMs on
the 512k, but the logic board with the "small board" that prevents it from
sliding out is on the Plus. He may well assume the 512k has SIMMs without
having opened it. Bottom line is we need more info which he has yet to
provide.
