Do a Google search for "Eveready 523" and you'll get even more choices.

Just as I said. The original Eveready 523 is out of production and
marked as NLA (no longer available). Wholesale Electronics, the
http://www.weisd.com/store2/EXBA133.html link you give, sells, just as
the URL indicates, an EXELL A133 battery while sailing under the banner
of Eveready; I hope it meets the specs. This would - apart from the
price - be one of the good news out of this thread. The pickle, as
usual, has excellent information boiled down to the essence in chapter
2.5.2 of his Mac FAQ, I just took a trip back to make sure:

Thanks for the tip to ask Google rather than the back of my head anyway
as there is even a german retailer for a replacement batt,
www.abcde.de, who sells a twopack at 22,90 Euros. Might be interesting
for the european members. The RadioShack offer is a replacement, too,
they show a photo of a blank (white) battery on their site. And, like
most of the times I do such a search, I learned a lot; e.g., that this
kind of battery was once part of a SLR camera, a Praktika model, and
has powered a lot of older condenser-type microphones, making it very
on-topic for the SLR and music fan I am. And there is even still a
22,5V battery out there at Wholesale Electronics, exactly what I need
to fire the flash of my Agfa Clack which is about 50 years old. A nice
table of Mac batteries that is, I'd bet, no more available at Apple's
site has been saved at www.brix.de/computer/mac_batterien.html; could
be useful to some people; in English, though a german website. I keep
it bookmarked.
Sorry for a typo in my first post: make it Rayovac 840 (lately 841)
instead of 640. Too much 6 makes you short-sighted, they say. YMMV as
soon as you reach your end-forties. I'm 58 now.
Any one got an idea why I might be getting sent my own posts on Compact
Macs TWICE ? Have there been any double posts on the list? I am quite
sure I did not send them twice, it was late O.K., but not THAT
late...Using Mail 1.3.11 with OS 10.3.9.
Cheers, OM
