Are you saying 2 MB of RAM is enough for 7.6? I'd never have thought that. I only have 7.5 on my Classic II and it has 10 MB of RAM. I run XTension on it to turn on my lights for the bird and pets when we are gone. :)

Nanc, I didn't realize it at first glance, but you misread a line in Scott's post. Read the quoted paragraph closely: "torn between System 6 and System7. (period, space, System) 6 has a speed advantage" etc. He's not talking about 7.6, and does it for a reason. 7.6 was a very advanced development, much closer in many respects to 8 or even 9 as to 7.5, so just as you thought, one shouldn't even think of using it in a low-RAM environment. A 2 MB machine will only be happy with some flavour of System 6 or, if you don't mind speed issues, 7.1 at the utmost. The only pre-Quadra or pre-PPC machine that could handle 7.6 in style was the IIfx. A beefed-up SE/30 could have enough memory but would have needed IIsi or IIfx ROMs for being 32-bit clean, which was a mixed blessing for a number of listers, and would still have been dead slow. With a Classic II, in case it could have had enough RAM to run 7.6, you probably could have fed and watered the bird and walked the dog before it had finished booting...

Cheers, OM
