Well said Stuart! And enjoy writing that novel in absolute silence -- even
the best laptops can't offer that! And at the risk of opening up an old
wound ... please don't do ANYTHING to that 512k that can't be easily removed
without altering the system -- AND be well aware that the 512k is severely
compromised to power even itself. Anything you do to increase the load on
its 20 year old power supply will most likely quickly shorten its remaining
life. Treat it like the treasure it is and follow Stuart's advice. Try to
operate it only within the parameters of Apple's original 1984 operating
guidelines and genuine Apple accessories unless you are prepared to repair
your analogue board when (not if) it dies.
