Mike, Any Apple Printer will ONLY work with Apple Computers. If you
want to have a printer for your PCs as well you simply cannot use them
with the Compact Macs, Most printers now need Mac OS 8.6 to run.
Whoa, not quite...The LaserWriter 16/600 (of which I am a proud
owner) will work with just about anything. It has serial, localtalk
and ethernet ports, all can be active at the same time and from
different computers. It's easiest for me to just set it up with
ethernet and use IP printing from my wireless connection, while the
SE/30 and PowerBook 540C print fine via Appletalk on the network.
Takes the generic Laserwriter driver, I have 7.5 on the compact and
8.1 on the PB, plus a couple different flavors of X on the other
computers at home.
