Ah, a fellow Pittsburgher! I wrote another post about Torx drivers...the Sears I found them at was at Ross Park Mall. Ross Park had them in plentiful supply when I got mine, which was early 2003.
As for the capacitors, what Radio Shacks did you go to? I live north of the city (Hampton Township) and have been to many of them. The one on Route 8 in Gibsonia (Shoppers Plaza near the Home Depot) is fairly large and the people usually either know what you want or can tell you where to get it. Some of the less-popular stores may also have them--I've found some good clearance items at the one in West View (it's in the shopping center where the park used to be). Some smaller stores like the one in Ross Park Mall seem better suited for electronics. Northway Mall may have something good though--I found ImageWriter ribbons for 98 cents there once. Pine Creek Plaza (on McKnight near Route 19 down the hill from Wexford) also typically has a lot on the clearance rack. I honestly don't know much about where to find capacitors as I've never bought one before. The school I worked for had a ton of them in the physics storage room but the guy who ordered them retired; perhaps someone in the department would know. Some of the clerks at the Radio Shacks may also know a place. As I said before the people at the Route 8 store seem to know the most about where to get stuff that they don't carry--they directed me to a computer shop in West View once to get parts and I've gone there ever since. I don't think that computer shop would help you though as they deal mostly with PC parts.
