Yes, I'd like to have a common core, and some collection of blobs that
distros can choose to take or ignore.

What I don't understand is how much the existing consolidation structure
will need to change.  I think distros will have an easier time if they
don't try to do surgery on a consolidation--either take it or don't, but
don't modify it.  But I'm not sure that's a realistic goal.

Mark Shuttleworth and some of the Ubuntu developers visited Sun last
Friday and talked about their setup.  What you're describing sounds like
how they manage things.
