Well then on the unreleased NV build I'm running I have a conundrum. The blastwave version installs nicely (automatically registers with svc and etc.) which makes it easy to install and one would think use. While it does find my remote printers, attempts to actually use them result in goofy results like: "lpstat -a ... long list of printers, each of which says "not accepting requests since "now" for unknown reason, etc." while on the other hand, the version from the companion CD area is a nuisance to install (the hunt the needle install process) and then it just has a pile of init.d stuff which I'm supposed to integrate myself (no doubt it's not hard once one figures it out). Starting that cups by hand not only finds the printers, but lpstat and test pages work (foolishly, I figured I'd try the blastwave version again ;>). Since I'm dealing with a not released build, I can't reasonably kvetch that the BW maintainers don't have it working right ... since there's a different CUPS that works, I'm loathe to try to file a bug against the NV build w/o having more of a root cause analysis than "uh, it doesn't work with blastwave" ;> I don't suppose there's a CUPS expert out there who wants to kibbitz on this is there?
