Years ago (ok, not that many) one had to be root in order
to build ON.  That's been fixed, and has been fixed for the
SFW consolidation as well.

Is needing to be root in order to build (or at least, set up
a build of) the companion a problem?

I'm kicking around the idea of using a zone to expedite
compilation of software that really wants to be installed
in the same directory it will be executed from...
