same problem for VirtualBox 3.0.10 on Ubuntu 9.10. pressing right ctrl and then ctrl+alt+left/rights works, but that is because VirtualBox releases the capture indeed. It would be nice if VirtualBox does not take complete control, or just can make an exception for the ubuntu switch desktop shortcuts.
