Sorry, I can't help for coding but I would like to mention that I have also this problem on Natty beta 1. It happens only in an "Ubuntu" or "Ubuntu Classic" session, but not in an "Ubuntu Classic (No Effects)" or "Ubuntu (Safe Mode)", I guess because compiz is not active in the latter cases.
