Indeed I become to think this is a compiz bug. I have had no issue for some time now running on a non-accelerated desktop. Can you please explain how to use metacity? It seems to be installed both.
If the bug is indeed in compiz, it is one of the most annoying ever: my pc freezes and I have to hard reset.
