The workaround offered by Colin in #137 worked for me, but it was not necesary 
to take all the steps.
I have the Oxygen cursor theme installed via Synaptic (oxygen-cursor-theme & 
oxygen-cursor-theme-extra packages). The only thing I had to do was step 4 and 
reboot (I prefer to reboot rather than log out/in). Look in /usr/share/icon for 
the theme's name.
Works for me in all tested windows. So far...
