I have to correct myself - the bug is still there with compiz from proposed installs. It appeared again after I installed Oneric as my main system and reusing my home directory from Natty for it. However, it has become trickier to reproduce, starting a new guest session and maximizing window works fine now. (That's why I first thought it was fixed). But I'm bitten by the bug nearly everytime I login to my normal user account.
