You have been subscribed to a public bug: The preview should automatically close on mouse out of that window's "area", but sometimes it does not. Playing a little with compiz window previews would definitely make this bug occur.
It might be related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/864316 bug, but not sure it's the same. And if someone opens the code of compiz window previews maybe there will be a fix for wrong window preview (because of wrong calculation of mouse position).
